Indeed, a physical quantity behave as a vector if it has three qualifications viz: magnitude, direction and its sum obeys triangle or parallelogram law of addition .This latter qualification is normally kept behind the screen in lower grades.
You are right, cureent has both magnitude and direction but the sum of two currents do not follow triangle or parallelogram law of addition so it is a scalar.
For eg : the sum of two forces say 3N and 4N is not merely 3+4 because it is a vector whereas the sum of two currents say 3Aand 4A is always 3+4 because it is a scalar.
